The head of one the country's largest taxi apps, says more Government support is needed to build the fleet back up.
Niall Carson, Managing Director of Free Now, says the number of drivers has dropped by 30% in the past ten years.
The shortage has resulted in many people experiencing difficulties in catching a cab in recent months.
Niall Carson says there's only one way the issue can be resolved:
"We've a very active driver base across Ireland that keep us moving forward through people's leisure lives but also business and tourism, they're essential. What we'd love to see is encouraging more drivers into the industry. We have seen greater supports in place as of the start of September to the NTA, but also looking at the modernization and electrification of the fleet."
