A combination of increased demand and falling numbers of drivers has led to the current shortage of taxis.
That's according to Niall Carson, the general manager of FreeNow Ireland, who says they had 200,000 requests for taxis around the country yesterday.
There have been multiple reports in recent weeks and months of people struggling to get taxis, particularly at peak times.
However, Mr Carson is warning of possible cab-shortages in the run-up to Christmas:
"We're seeing service levels strong off-peak. So we're seeing the service levels, that the drivers are providing. They're are doing an amazing job around the clock. Certainly, they are really pushed at the peak hours, during hours when people are looking to head out - often between five and seven in the evening. And then of course, just after midnight, things really become very challenging".
