A fully electric fleet of buses have hit the streets of Athlone.
It's the country's first fully electric town bus service.
The regular sound you might associate with the bus is set to change.
But today, a new fleet of electric buses will take to the streets of Athlone, as the Transport Minister Eamon Ryan will be launches Ireland’s first all-electric town bus service.
The 11 Bus Éireann vehicles cost 600,000 euro each, and will be full operational by January 29th
Minister Eamon Ryan says these electric buses have huge environmental benefits.
The fleet is part of the government's pathfinder programme, which aims to deliver various transport projects across the country in the next three years.
