A Garda has been dismissed from the force for failing one part of a fitness test.
32 year-old Emma Roche, who was based at Mountjoy Garda station, finished her last shift overnight after being told her contract was being terminated because she didn't pass a bleep test.
Her dad Shay Roche, who is a retired Garda sergeant, says failing the test has never interfered with her ability to carry out her duties.
"All her reports from her supervisors and her senior management are for an excellent young Garda.
"She's performing her duties just as anybody else, and she has testimonials from quite a number of people, some of them internal in the Garda force and some of them external.
"There's no better proof a person's ability than how they perform in the actual environment."
