Employees are being warned to be highly vigilant when sending payments online or dealing with new bank account numbers.
As part of Fraud Week, gardaí are advising employees to google the IBANs of new accounts, to make sure they're based in the location they've said.
Ciara was just one week in her new job when she received a suspicious email, appearing to be from her boss:
"because I had just started in my company and was working remotely, I'd never met my boss in person. It all seemed quite legitimate. The email came in under his name. They started to message me on WhatsApp and then were asking me to complete a task which was to buy gift cards, which I then purchased with my own money."
