Gardaí identified 46 people allegedly purchasing sex over just two days last week, as part of a national crackdown on human trafficking.
One person in the south west informed Gardaí there are a number of people in their area who they believe have been trafficked into the country.
Another in the east of the country, reported a suspected pimp, who they believe has financial control of a number of people living locally.
Superintendent Derek Maguire explains what happens when they’ve been identified as a victim of human trafficking:
"They're entered into the national referral mechanism, which allows them a suite of services, including accommodation and medical support, legal advice, security advice. They're entitled to 60 days reflection and recovery period after they've been identified as a victim a potential victim of trafficking."
