Gardai have issued a new road safety appeal after eight people were killed on the road over the June Bank Holiday weekend.
There have now been 79 road deaths since the beginning of the year.
Gardaí are encouraging drivers to slow down, be attentive, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Assistant Commissioner Paula Hilman says there's more to these tragedies than figures on a page:
"We very much think of the families, the communities and friends of those who have been impacted. It's a table with someone missing, an empty chair at a table. The impact on the family and the devastation we see firsthand, working with the groups that support those who have been killed and seriously injured on our roads. So our safety message is very much please everyone slow down."
