Gardai in Killarney are continuing to question a man in his 50's in connection with the murder of 75 year old Miriam Burns.
The Grandmother and Mother of four was found dead in her home in the Co. Kerry town on Monday afternoon.
Following a post mortem examination Garda immediately launched a murder inquiry - and shortly after arrested the man.
Ralph Riegel, southern correspondent with the Irish Independent says Gardai have until this afternoon to charge or release the man.
"He was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in the South Kerry area.
"He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, and that gives Gardai up to 24 hours to question him.
"He has a defence solicitor, Padraig O'Connell, who has attended Killarney Garda Station.
"Essentially, Gardai at the end of that 24 hour period must make a decision to either charge him or release him."
