A GoFundMe has been set up for a Tipperary pensioner who has been ordered to pay his local authority's legal costs in a row over a log cabin

In December 2002 66 year old Sean Meehan was order to take down the log cabin he built without planning permission on land in New Inn

He has been in a long battle with Tipperary County Council but has been unsuccessful in securing retrospective planning

In court yesterday he was sentenced to 4 months in prison but granted leave to appeal and ordered to pay the €10,000 legal costs incurred by the Council

Sean Meehan is currently out on continuing bail and he told The Neil Prendeville Show the awarding of costs against him was a body blow

"That was the the whammy for me. They moved in the heavy artillery on me on that one. Like I struggled, assaid, here, I squirreled away a few quid. when I retired, worked in a tough job all my life, but then they put me through this three years of hell, and then for them to look for the money for me to compensate them for putting me through this. And the judge instantly agreed to it. You couldn't write this stuff you know"
