The Government is reportedly planning to appoint its own auditor to examine RTÉ finances.
The Sunday Independent reports the Media Minister is considering invoking special powers to do so, in the wake of the Ryan Tubridy payments scandal.
There are also unconfirmed reports in the Irish Mail on Sunday that the government is considering splitting the broadcaster in half in a major restructuring, and potentially selling 2fm to a private bidder.
The reports also suggest RTÉ salaries might be capped at 176 thousand euro.
It comes as the chair of the RTÉ Board and the incoming Director General confirmed they'll meet with Minister Catherine Martin in the coming days.
