The government is expected to set a carbon reduction target for agriculture at 24% to 26%.
That's according to a report by the Irish Farmers Journal.
The Green Party had sought a target of 30%, but a lower compromise is more likely.
President of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association, Pat McCormack, says farmers are making an effort to reduce their footprint:
"I'd be very very disappointed that the government wouldn't have come up with a minimum reduction which was the option of 22%. We have a lot of plans implemented and some of them have progressed substantially, and plans that are in the pipeline need time to materialize on the ground."
