The ESRI says the Government's target to reduce poverty by 2025 is in danger due to the rising cost of living.
It has released a report today outlining how to reduce poverty in society, calling for better benefits and more women in the workforce.
That could be achieved by removing barriers like reducing childcare costs, according to the document.
Senior Research Officer, Bertrand Maître is worried a combination of the war and fuel prices could reverse Ireland's progress in tackling poverty:
"The economic crisis and the cost of living, that's going to have a serious impact on households in Ireland. We might expect to see that more households are going to be deprived over the next few months. It's something that we'll see maybe next year when we get to know some data, but that might slow down or even might reverse you know the direction of the governments plan."
