Gardai say there aren't enough members of the force to operate a proposed new roster.
Commissioner Drew Harris announced yesterday the emergency roster imposed during the covid pandemic was ending, to be replaced by a new pattern of working ‘6 Days On, 4 Day Off’ on a 10-Week cycle.
But the Garda Representative Association says its unworkable.
Its Interim General Secretary Ronan Slevin says they have outlined a viable alternative which has buy in from all its members.
"We made a proposal to the commissioner and to the conciliation services.
"We presented our roster for the core units, and the non core units, on a four unit structure that would allow the Commissioner to police the country, and to police it with the resources he has at the moment.
"I think that is a viable proposal, and is accepted by all our members."
