The Garda Representative Association says Detective Garda Ben O'Sullivan, who died today, will be remember as an inspiring, resilient, and courageous figure.
The retired detective survived an IRA attack in Adare, Co. Limerick in 1996, in which his colleague Detective Jerry McCabe was killed.
Detective O'Sullivan was shot 11 times and seriously injured in the ambush as they escorted a post office cash delivery van.
The Scott Medal recipient has been described by the GRA as a revered colleague and most of all, a true gentleman.
