People have cut back on trips to the supermarket to deal with rising grocery costs.
The latest data from research group Kantar found consumer spending on groceries is down 3% since May, while shoppers are more inclined to buy own label brands when shopping in the larger chains.
Emer Healy, Business Development Director with Kantar says they've seen the highest rate of inflation since 2008:
"Over the latest 12 weeks, consumer spending has fell by 3.1%. However, despite this kind of fall in spending, grocery inflation in Ireland actually hits 7.7% which is the highest level that we have seen it since 2008."
