A guidance counsellor is appealing to Leaving Cert students not to panic, when the CAO offers college places later.
The government expects 75% of applicants to receive offers for one of their top three college courses, despite grade inflation this year.
Editor of the Education Handbook, Brian Mooney, says students shouldn't accept a course if they don’t want it.
"Don't panic.
"If you've been offered a course don't just jump on it, think about it. If it's not for you, don't take it.
"You will drop out if the course is really not what you want.
"Go into your schools, schools have set up a process whereby if they ring ahead they can meet with their guidance counsellor."
