Half of the operating theatres at the new National Children's Hospital will have to be rebuilt.
The Irish Mail on Sunday reports there are serious problems with the ventilation system and the theatres are 'not fit for purpose'.
Extra work needed to correct the problem could cost tens of millions of euro.
TD David Cullinane says the opening of the hospital is facing further delays:
"What we do know is that the independent experts who examined the operating theatres, warned six months ago - the board and also Children's Health Ireland - that the longer they took to take decisive action and remedial action in relation to these operating theatres, the works will become more expensive and time consuming. And obviously more expensive means more money and time consuming means delays".
