The Health Minister is due to tell colleagues this morning that the situation in Irish hospitals is improving.
Stephen Donnelly will update Cabinet as most recent INMO figures show 534 people were on trolleys yesterday.
It comes as the Irish Medical Organisation says the current situation in hospitals here is the worst its ever seen.
Dr. Ilona Duffy - a GP based in Monaghan - says the surge in illness is nowhere near ending anytime soon.
"We're seeing people with influenza, people with COVID and people with all the other respiratory illnesses that we'd see and I suppose the big thing is that many of them are quite sick.
"GPs are back with face to face visits. We're trying to see our patients and protect the hospitals and protect patients from needing to go to hospital. So yes, exceptionally busy and no signs of it easing in the short term."
