Spot flooding remains in low lying areas of the city, such as Morrisons Quay, Union Quay and South Terrace and traffic restrictions remain in place.
High tide tomorrow morning is just after 5am and will result in some minor spot flooding, while high tide tomorrow evening at 5:25 is not expected to be as bad as today.
Speaking to RedFM News on Union Quay this evening, Director of Services and Operations with Cork City Council, David Joyce says flood waters are now receding:
"As predicted, the water levels did reach 2.55 meters which is 10 centimeters higher than the high tides two weeks ago. However also as predicted, the water did stay on the roads. We did have to close a number of roads. We closed Sharman Crawford Street, we closed a number of lanes on Lavitt's Quay, we also restricted traffic on Union Quay and South Terrace. Lower Glanmire Road was okay, so overall, the city fared very, very well. There is still heavy traffic around the city and we do expect that to last another hour as people leave their offices and go home."
