The outgoing CMO will be paid around €30,000 a year more than his academic colleagues when he begins his new job at Trinity College Dublin.
The Irish Independent is reporting that Dr. Tony Holohan's salary of €187,000 a year is significantly higher than the capped earnings of other professors who are involved in teaching and research at the third level institution.
Controversy erupted this week when it emerged that Dr. Holohan's salary will continue to be paid by the Department of Health, despite him confirming that he not be returning to the role of Chief Medical Officer.
