Homeowners living close to Mount Juliet in Kilkenny are charging €20,000 or more to rent out their homes for the Irish Open.
The major golf tournament will begin this Thursday, with properties for spectators to rent costing between €2,000 and €40,000 for the week.
One homeowner near the golf course in Thomastown advertised his property for €50,000 for the week, but told the Irish Examiner he was "only blaggarding".
Patricia Michael Hennessy owns a B&B nearby and says tourists shouldn't be taken advantage of:
"People just run away with themselves really, we here in this B&B didn't raise the price at all. If you book this week or if you book next week, it's the same price. We didn't raise the price for the golf at all. I feel personally that you have to give people value for money, because they are the ones that spread the word and that's the best form of advertising, is word of mouth."
