Households could save €450 a year on electricity costs, if they installed rooftop solar panels.
A new report by University College Cork found there are 1 million homes in Ireland have space and orientation suitable to install panels.
The report found that if every home that was suitable for panels installed them, it would reduce Ireland's carbon emissions by 95 thousand tonnes.
