Households are expected to spend the same amount on Christmas again this year.
Retail Ireland says people plan to spend an extra €978 in December, compared to other months of the year.
The business group says their research shows planned festive spending hasn't been negatively impacted by the rising cost of living.
Business journalist Joe Lynam says a lot of people had extra cash to spend this time last year.
"There was a huge bounce back after lockdowns last year and people had a lot of savings. And I think it's good news to think that they will spend roughly the same this year, €978, and that basically means that they are confident enough to continue spending despite interest rates despite energy costs.
"Despite the doom and gloom around them, a war on the continent of Europe, they're gonna spend roughly the same of €978 to a total of €5.4bn this year."
