Darragh O'Brien says there's a cap on how many houses can realistically be built over the next few years.
He refused to put a number on it - saying it would be made clear in the upcoming Housing For All plan.
Minister O'Brien said there is a cap on how many properties can get built over the coming years:
"I've already said we need to be delivering about 33,000 homes a year, and that's backed by ESRI research. Over the last two years, we've lost basically 26,000 homes, because we delivered 20,000 in 2020, we'll deliver probably optimistically 20,000 this year. That's 13,000 short year on year on what we need to do. That shows you the scale of the challenge. We did lose some capacity due to the pandemic. Some workers left and worked in continental Europe and worked in Britain. We're seeing some of them come back."
