The Housing Minister has said he is committed to working towards ending homelessness.
Minister Dara O'Brien made the comments as the monthly homelessness figures were published this afternoon.
It shows that there were 423 homeless people in Cork city and county during the last full week of September.
Nationally, there's been an increase of 3-point-2 per cent in the number of homeless people, and the number of homeless children is up 7-point-1 per cent on August's figures.
Earlier this month, the Minister met with senior officials from the local authorities worst affected by homelessness including Cork City Council.
Each local authority has been given a target number of vacant and derelict units to bring back into use this year.
