Around 350,000 households are facing an energy price hike today, as two providers introduce increase their rates.
SSE Airtricity is increasing its gas and electricity charges by 9%, which will add an average of €115 to a household's annual gas and electricity costs.
Meanwhile Pinergy is upping its prices by 19%, which adds around €300 to an annual bill.
Head of Communications at bonkers.ie, Daragh Cassidy says the price hikes come on top of further increases earlier this year.
"In Ireland and in Europe there's been over 35 price hike announcements so far this year, and the year isn't even done.
"Customers of Pinergy are looking at paying around €780 more for their electricity each year, and SSE Airtricity customers are looking at paying around €500 more for gas and electricity."
