Members took the decision on Friday because they believe they should be given consultant status because that's their qualification.
It's accusing the Department of Health of a lack of respect for the medical workforce and lack of urgency on public health medicine.
IMO Chair Dr. Ina Kelly says today's meeting of the Public Health Committee will outline what form the industrial action will take:
"We're meeting today to discuss how we're going to implement the very strong mandate we received from a valid last week for industrial action, up to and including strike action. That's what we'll be discussing with a lot of big decisions to be made on that, because there's quite a strong desire within public health medicine now to to strike."
