The Irish Medical Organisation says turning down the thermostat at home is sensible but living in a cold house is bad for your health.
As part of the Government’s "Be Winter Ready" campaign, the IMO is encouraging people to boost their immune system by taking Vitamin D or another multipurpose vitamin.
It's also reminding anyone eligible for a Covid-19 booster vaccine or a flu shot to come forward.
Chairman Dr. Denis McCauley has this advice for staying healthy this winter:
"I think people are very worried about the fuel costs and they may be inclined to keep the house very cold. I think the the advice of turning the thermostat down a bit is actually sensible but you shouldn't be walking around a cold house. I think that isn't good and I think keep well physically keep well psychologically. Pick a supplement, must admit I do believe in the vitamin D."
