Gardaí and Motorsport Ireland are conducting two separate investigations into the deaths of two men during the Sligo Stages Rally.
The men who were participating in the event were killed instantly when their rally car hit a wall at Carrow-cushcly in Bally-mote at around 3pm yesterday.
The bodies of the driver in his 30s and passenger in his 40s were later removed to Sligo University Hospital where post-mortems will take place today.
Gardaí are asking that footage of the collision is not shared across social media or messaging apps.
Sligo based journalist Sorcha Crowley says both men were well known in rallying circles.
"The driver was from county Cavan, a man in his 30's and his co pilot was a man from from manor in his 40's, both married with families, very experienced in the rallying for years, if not decades, and they would have been known the length and breadth of the country."
