Investigators were reportedly 'alarmed' at the circumstances in which they found the body of a woman in Killarney yesterday.
The body of Miriam Burns - a 75 year old mother and Grandmother - was discovered at a house just outside the town at lunchtime.
Gardaí are said to be treating the death of 'unexplained', however the results of a post mortem will determine the course of their investigation.
Kerry-based journalist Anne Lucey says door-to-door inquiries are being carried out in the area.
"The investigators became alarmed at the circumstances in which they found her in the room.
"They did door to door inquiries, establishing when she was last seen.
"The people in Killarney are very upset, very much because she was a very warm, very stylish, very friendly lady, you'd often see her on her bike.
"She was a mother of three adult children, some of whom were abroad."
