Ireland has pledged to provide 3 million euro to the International Criminal Court to assist in the prosecution of alleged Russian war crimes in Ukraine.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney who is meeting officials in Kyiv today.

The government has already provided 20 million euro in humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees and 33 million euro in non-lethal assistance for the country's military.

Minister Coveney says Russia needs to be held accountable for their actions.

"We believe that a lot of the atrocities that are taking place against Ukrainian citizens at the moment, need to be part of a process to ensure that there is full accountability for those actions. And that is why today, I'm announcing an extra €3,000,000 of support for the work of the International Criminal Court. To ensure that they can do their work comprehensively."
