Ireland is set to get €1.4 billion in EU funding over the next six years to help address regional disparities and social inequalities.
The money will come from the EU's Cohesion Funding policy, which aims to improve the economic well-being of regions and cities in the block.
€84 million will help the Midlands region to transition from peat to alternative fuels for electricity generation, with €142 million for the Irish fishing industry.
EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, says Ireland is a progressive country but some areas need to be addressed.
