There's a warning Ireland is under prepared if faced with a global energy crisis.
A former managing director of the ESB says Ireland is the least prepared in Europe when it comes to energy security.
The EU could face challenges with energy supplies this winter as it tries to reduce dependency on oil and gas imports from Russia.
Ireland's energy regulator- the CRU- is considering setting high tariffs on large consumers and data centres.
Former head of the ESB, Don Moore, says a lack of investment has put us in this position.
"Germany has 100 days of gas storage, and during the summer it's busily filling that gas storage to even out heavy demand during the winter.
"Austrai has a year's gas storage. We have chosen not to have any gas storage. We had an option - the Kinsale field, which is now finished, depleted - we could have used that, but we chose not to spend the money on that and dismantled it, so we don't have that option."
