Ireland's electricity grid's facing increased prospect of blackouts this winter

It follows Eirgrids decision not to proceed with emergency plans to import gas generators to cope with increased demand.

According to the Business Post, the move was scrapped after British Energy firm, Tynagh Energy, lodged a High Court challenge, alledging its procurement process was anti-competitive.

Eirgird is said to be hopeful gas plants at Huntstown in Dublin and Whitegate in Cork, which have been mostly down this year, could be back operating in time for peak winter demand.
