Economic growth in the Irish economy is set to slow in 2023.

The ESRI, in its Quarterly Economic Commentary, is predicting growth of 8.4% this year, with employment remaining strong throughout 2023.

It also predicts average inflation of 7.1% next year and domestic activity in the economy to increase by just 2.2%

Dr Connor O'Toole, Associate Research Professor with the ESRI, says while the economy performed well this year, 2023 will be prove to be a difficult time.

"Looking in to next year you can see clearly that some of the indicators are tipping downwards.

"Some of the in time measures of the domestic economy that we use are all pointing towards a slowing of the growth rate, quite markedly.

"We\re expecting next year to be much more difficult than this year with a down turn in the growth rate."
