The Irish Heart Foundation wants to see the cost of 20 cigarettes, increase to 20 euro a pack.
It says there's now 'conclusive evidence' increasing the cost is the most effective way of stopping young people from smoking.
Director of Advocacy at the foundation, Chris Macey says Ireland's 'tobacco free' policy has failed miserably:
"We've lost our way in terms of tobacco control. Smoking rates among teenagers are up for the first time in a generation. The Tobacco Free Ireland policy to reduce the smoking rate to 5% by 2025 has failed. We've a figure of 18% smoking rate. We haven't really even come close".
