Alumni of an Irish university have been emailed asking for room availability in their homes.
Trinity alumni services highlighted the 'accommodation crisis' in Ireland in its message to graduates.
Landlords who rent a room in their home can receive tax breaks of up to €14,000.
Labour's higher education spokesperson, Senator Annie Hoey, says the crisis in student accommodation has been coming for years:
"In the student movement nearly 10 years ago now, we called it we did a piece of research in 2014 and said a student accommodation crisis is coming, and this needs to be dealt with pronto and it's been getting worse ever since. There are literally students who are not going to be able to uptake their educational opportunities this year because they cannot get accommodation and they have nowhere to live."
