Irish Water doesn't expect it will have to impose a nationwide hose pipe ban.
The utility recently had to bring in measures including tankering and night-time restrictions to curb water supplies in 15 areas across the midlands and southeast.
Officials are warning that demand will remain high through to next month despite the weather cooling off.
Head of Asset Operations at Irish Water Tom Cuddy says it's too early to make a call on an outdoor water ban.
"Certainly in our largest areas, we would see that as a long way off at this stage.
"There might be some locations where restrictions come in because essentially we don't have enough water to meet demand, but they would be very local."
