Business group ISME, says workers who lose their jobs should be entitled to a State payment of up to 80% of their previous earnings even if they make more than €100,000 a year.
Government ministers are due to consider proposals before Christmas, which could link Jobseekers' payments to someone's income.
Jobseekers' Benefit rates are currently linked to average weekly earnings, with people getting between €93.30 and €208 a week if they lose their job.
But CEO of ISME, Neil McDonnell, says higher earners should be getting more than 208-euro a week if they find themselves on the dole:
"Those people make uncapped contributions to the Social Fund at 4%, and if they're on fortunate enough to be laid off, those people have paid enormous amounts of income into the Social Fund, and they should not have a cap benefit applied to them. We're very happy with something that sounds like 75 or 80% of their income, but there's no reason to cap it in absolute or nominal terms."
