The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is reporting an increase in the number of abandoned pets.
It says the relaxation of Covid restrictions and the return to the office of the workforce has meant most people don't have the same amount of leisure time as they did two years ago.
Dr. Cyril Sullivan, CEO of the ISPCA, says the organisation is seeking people to adopt or foster unwanted pets:
"What we're noticing now is that people are returning to work, animals are returning into our care, and the number of people have been available to adopt animals has gone down. So we're making an appeal, we're appealing for people to put themselves forward to adopt or to foster and even fostering is very important terms of animal welfare."
