Cork Senator Jerry Buttimer has apologised for attending an event that breached public health guidelines on Wednesday night.

The Fine Gael senator attended the Oireachtas Golf Society's 50th anniversary event at the Station House Hotel in Clifden in Galway, despite this week's public health guidelines saying that only 50 people were allowed to attend an indoor gathering.

On Twitter last night Senator Buttimer said that he should not have attended in light of the updated public health advice.

He went on to say it was a lapse of judgement on his part, for which he sincerely apologised.

Meanwhile the Agriculture Minister Dara Calleary's 's position is 'in jeopardy' after attending the event.

That's according to Rise TD Paul Murphy, who's calling the Fianna Fail deputy leader to give a clearer explanation of what happened - press PLAY
