The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health will meet today to discuss the funding crisis in the health system.
It will discuss how Ireland’s health service will function next year following the recent Budget announcement and the recruitment freeze.
It will hear from representatives from the HSE and officials from the Department of Health.
Committee member and Sinn Fein Spokesperson on Health David Cullinane wants them to set out clearly what impact the shortfall in funding will have:
"We need honestly in relation to what impact this very dramatic underfunding of the health service will have next year. We know already that measures have been put in place to have an embargo on some elements of the frontline, including not training junior doctors, healthcare assistants, home helps. These are areas that will really bite and bite hard over the next number of weeks and months".
