Killer heat is continuing to affect much of mainland Europe - with 40-degree temperatures continuing to rise.

Authorities in major Italian cities are encouraging everyone to stay inside during midday heat.

Cyprus and Greece are also bracing for a worsening heatwave - bringing with it a greater risk to health, and of forest fires.

Some tourist attractions have also been forced to close.

And Sky meteorologist Kirsty McCabe says we're not at the peak yet.

"We could see 48°, North Africa could perhaps see 50°, so it's just unbelievable temperatures I also think about our body temperature being 37° and anything more than that is not good, nobody wants to be hotter than that."
