A final decision on the format for this year's Leaving Cert will be made next week, according to a junior minister.
A survey of students found over two thirds want a combination of accredited grades or the option of sitting the exams.
At present, the Leaving Cert is due to return to the old model in place before the pandemic.
Junior Minister for Higher Education, Niall Collins, says a final decision will be made by the end of the month.
"Its very important that we give clarity as soon as possible.
"That's why the Minister is consulting with all the stakeholders, and all the education partners, over the next number of days.
"Following that detailed consultation a recommendation will be made by the Minister to the Government.
"I expect that recommendation will be made next week following the detailed consultation of this week."
