Limerick hurler Kyle Hayes will avoid three months in prison if he is deemed suitable for 180 hours of community service.
The 26-year-old of Ballyashea, Kildimo, County Limerick appeared at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court this morning.
The five time all Ireland winners case was returned to the Circuit Court in Limerick after he lost an appeal against a dangerous driving conviction at Cork Circuit Appeals Court last week.
That conviction was a trigger for a two year suspended sentence Hayes received a year ago yesterday, after being found guilty of two charges of violent disorder in 2019. Today in court, Judge Dara Hayes said Kyle Hayes had not sought preferential treatment because of his hurling role, and added any sporting achievements would have no bearing on his decision.
He said the dangerous driving conviction was not a repeat of the violent disorder Hayes was originally convicted for, the matter was adjourned for the preparation of a Community Service Order Report and is up for mention again on the 28th of April.
