LGBTQ+ charity BelongTo is calling for mandatory inclusivity training for teachers.

It’s after its latest survey shows more than 3 in 4 LGBTQ+ students feel unsafe at school.

58% of respondents said they’ve also heard homophobic remarks from school staff.

Diarmuid de Paor from the ASTI says teachers need more training on the subject:

"I think that the resources should be provided to do comprehensive CPD training for teachers and to make them feel confident in how to deal with students who do approach them, and also to make them aware I am in a lot of teachers are but some are not of the damage that is done by casual remarks made by students but occasionally by teachers as well unfortunately.
