The majority of people believe private health providers dominate the care sector and there is strong support for more government and community involvement in care of older people.
That's the finding from a RED C poll set out to gauge opinion on issues to help and care for older people.
The poll also showed there is strong support for a Commissioner for Older People, to safeguard the elderly.
Chairman of Sage Advocacy Mark Mellett says GAA for Care would bring society together:
"There are some really good examples of community provision of care, built around the day centre and then with sheltered accommodation, but I think a more national approach on that, on the concept of the GA For Care is something that is novel. At the same time, it would bring society into the ruck in the context of the provision of care for us all. We will all become older - some sooner rather than later".
