A man his early 20s has been hospitalised after acid was thrown at his face in Limerick.

It happened at a house party on Saturday night in Garryowen.

Gardaí say no arrests have yet been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Fianna Fáil TD for Limerick City, Willie O'Dea, says it was a horrific assault.

"The whole situation culminated with someone throwing acid into his face, literally disfiguring him which is an appalling, a monstrous thing, a bestial thing to do.

"The level of violence and the level of aggression between human beings seems to be on the increase all the time, but this was a particularly horrendous attack."
