The man in his fifties was arrested on Tuesday evening.
A file is being prepared for the DPP, while the investigation will continue under the direction of a senior investigating officer
Southern Correspondent with the Irish Independent Ralph Riegel says Gardaí had to decide today whether to charge or release the man:
"He was detained under section four of the Criminal Justice Act of 1984 and that gave Gardaí 24 hours to question him. Now, that 24 hour period was effectively extended by the fact that the man was subjected to a medical examination, he took various rest periods and feeding periods and there was also a matter yesterday afternoon where the man was taken by Gardaí to two different locations in Killarney."
