Maternity hospitals can consider easing visitor restrictions over the coming weeks.
That's according to the HSE's Director of Women and Infant Health, who says the measures can be reviewed due to the improving Covid-19 situation, with the community rate falling and healthcare staff being vaccinated.
Some maternity hospitals have recently slightly eased restrictions, but tight limits remain in place.
Dr. Peter McKenna says hospitals can be more liberal.
"I think that hospitals will be reviewing the restrictions.
"I would be hopeful that they would consider themselves in a position to have a less restrictive policy in the coming weeks."
